Growden Heritage Site — Sunday, Aug. 27, 2017

Eastern Washington > Okanogan Highlands/Kettle River Range
Even though I know it's a statue, this guy always startles me when I drive west on Highway 20.

Camp Growden is a former CCC camp, now a restored heritage site with an interpretive trail.  The access is easy, as the site serves as a summer rest-area along Highway 20 east of Sherman Pass.  It's a very short hike (two-tenths of a mile) with several interpretive signs along the way, and makes for a good place to stop & stretch when driving over Sherman Pass.

The CCC left big boots to fill.
"Little America" sign at Camp Growden.
"Lake Sherman" restored.
