There was finally a short break from heavy smoke to do a day hike!!! The views from the lookout were quite smoky, but worth it nonetheless. Besides it being a tad warm, it was perfect.
The trail is in great condition! Since we have not gotten any rain lately, the trail was thick with loose dirt and dust. The road had only a handful of small potholes that almost any vehicle could get through.
WARNING: I ran into a bear about two miles up from the Round Mountain turnoff. Very curious and didn't run away until a loud voice and banging of the hiking poles continued for a while (even blasting music).
