Trip Report

Heather Lake — Friday, Sep. 8, 2017

North Cascades > Mountain Loop Highway
Typical trail.

I won't repeat all the previous reports. The trail is a little more difficult than the description would have one believe; the trail is pretty rooty and rocky in places, and there are some very large steps to take (I have a 30" inseam and found myself clambering a couple times). Overall a fun hike, and I'm adding it to the list of places to take out-of-towners.

Used this hike to test out how much hiking my dog can do with me and get out after a week of hiding from smoke. The smoke was all cleared for most of the trail, but it was still smoky and cloudy at the actual lake; I couldn't see anything past the shore. Fall foliage is just starting to show up. I'm planning on doing this hike again on a clear day.

The cutest hiking partner. This is also pretty typical for this trail. Be prepared to watch out for shoelace snags.
Pano at the lake.
