Arrived at the parking lot trailhead around noon. It was completely full. The guidebook says 20-30 cars, but there were at least 60 in the lot. We parked on the road, and counted 101 cars on our way back to the trailhead. Needless to say, a very popular hike. About one half of the trail is covered with slushie, muddy snow. Easily passable, but wet and a little slick. The fall colors are stunning. It was very crowded at the lake, but most hikers had good trail etiquette. Descending was a constant stream of leapfrogging other hikers.
