Since Northrop Canyon was not successful I still had to exercise the dog. We had done Steamboat Rock the day before and noticed, while on top, the beach below. Headed out from m the State Park and walked over to the day use area and then up the access road to the camp sites. There were unfriendly campers there so we headed away from them. Headed back towards the rock but on the beach. The dog did a bunch of swimming. It was so beautiful and the area is stunning. Lots of boats out with fishermen in them. We didn’t take the access road on the way back and explored the trails below the rock to get back to the park. On the way back is the only time we were warned by a young rattlesnake to pay attention the whole weekend. I love this area and will be back for spring wildflower season. The state park is a good place to stay. Be warned though. You have to pay to shower.
