Road to the TH is in good condition, only a few small sections of washboards in the unpaved sections. Limited parking at the TH, maybe room for 8 vehicles. Restroom is (as of this writing) still unlocked, clean and stocked with TP.
Trail is in great shape, and it was often carpeted in the last golden leaves of autumn. There are a few sections where it is a little rocky, but overall the tread is smooth and gentle. Several of the sturdy bridges have a thin coat of frozen slush on them, the small log bridge just past Camp Jolley has a 2" layer of frozen snow on it. Trail itself is currently snow-free, but after Bark Shanty Camp there are patches of snow less than 2" deep along the sides of the trail. One good-sized tree uprooted and blocking the trail; the tree has been cut up and moved off trail, but the rootball and lots of loose soil are still blocking the path. Relatively easy to skirt around it, just watch your footing in the extremely soft dirt.
This is a really pretty trail in the spring for woodland wildflowers; it has a totally different charm in the fall. Many varieties of mushrooms everywhere along the trail, and lovely views of the river and many small creeks. Beautiful old-growth evergreens tower above the moss-carpeted forest floor. Ferns in abundance, and several pockets of native rhododendrons.
