Trip Report

East Bank Baker Lake — Monday, Nov. 13, 2017

North Cascades > North Cascades Highway - Hwy 20
Leaves all over the trail.

Always have a backup plan! I tried to access both Park and Dock Butte before being turned around by snow on the road, but luckily I had decided to do Baker Lake if I couldn't get to either trailhead. I was a little bummed I couldn't get to those options, but Baker Lake is always a nice hike.

I think I caught the very last of the fall foliage here. Leaves all over the ground. There was a bit of mud, but nothing bad. Weather was pretty miserable today but the forest kept me mostly dry. Trail is in good condition but keep an eye out for trees coming down. With the huge amounts of rain falling right now there are lots of limbs and even full trees falling. I had a tree fall on the forest road while I was hiking and I had to haul it off to get out. The moss soaks up tons of water and weighs the branches down, so be aware if you're going into dense woods this time of year, especially if there's wind blowing.

Junction for Baker Lake and Baker River trails.
Bonus shot from poking around on the shore of the lake after the hike.

Glad you were able to move the tree. That's pretty scary when the wind starts blowing! I like your picture of the stump in the lake.

Yeah, it always makes me consider putting at least a hatchet in the car. Then I forget about it until it happens again.
