The trail is in great condition, no snowshoes required but that could change in a day. We had micro spikes and put them on at the trailhead...they are almost required with the ice and snow. The trail is compacted all they way to the view of the lake. Lots of wind gusts on top of the ridge. The lake remains unfrozen. On the way down we made the side trek towards Source Lake and the trail is much less used causing lots of postholing. We saw 9 other people on the trail on a Monday morning. Keep an eye on the weather...it was raining hard all the way to the parking lot on this day, but all we experienced on trail was snow flurries.
