Olallie Lake via Pratt Lake Trail — Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017

Snoqualmie Region > North Bend Area
Approaching Olallie lake basin. This was about the highest amount of snow we encountered.

We took advantage of the sunny day to hike up to some snow. The trail started off snow-free, but started getting slushy about 1.5 miles in. The snow level steadily increased until the turnoff to Olallie lake, where there was about a foot of snow. Even here the trail was pretty packed down and we did not need snowshoes. The Olallie-Pratt lake connector was less packed down but still not problematic. We took a break for lunch at Olallie, which was beautiful with the snow-capped trees and peak in the background. Unfortunately, there were also some very aggressive grey jays that tried to steal sandwiches out of our hands. I found microspikes and gaiters helpful once the trail got snowy enough, but they are not necessary. Most people we passed on the trail also said they didn't need snowshoes. Overall it was a great day of wintery hiking!

For stats, my gps app said 8 miles and 1800 feet of elevation gain to Olallie Lake and back.

Snow-free at the Alpine Lakes wilderness border.
