Ira Spring Trail - Mason Lake, Mount Defiance — Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017

Snoqualmie Region > Snoqualmie Pass
Looking south.
  • Road to trailhead badly rutted, but there is no snow.
  • Snow starts about 2 miles in.
  • I was the first one on the trail today and broke trail all the way to Mason Lake using snowshoes. I could easily see where the trail was but there was about 8 inches of snow on the trail.
  • Decided to go up to Mount Defiance via the Mount Defiance Ridge Trail. Broke trail there also, but the snow became very deep about .75 miles in and it was incredibly slow going. I decided to turn around there! What took me 45 minutes to walk up took me 15 minutes to cruise down.
  • I didn't need snowshoes on the way down the Ira Spring Trail as the trail was packed down. I did use my microspikes, though!
  • I'm curious if the man I met at Mason Lake made it up to Mount Defiance using my path!
  • Thank you to David, the man I met in the parking lot for helping me change my flat tire.  Not an ideal place to get a flat!
  • All in all a really wonderful day in the woods!
