I was really looking forward to this outing. In fact, on the drive there, I was thinking about how I would start my trail report. Something like:
"There is no better way to spend a day than in the mountains. But sometimes life gets busy and you can't make it to the mountains. Which is why it's awesome to have a wildlife reserve near where you live to just get outside for a little in the middle of a hectic day...."
Well, unfortunately, the hike was not as splendid as I had hoped. While WTA says the hike is three miles, I could only log 1.4 miles here today. We could not find a path to a gravel bar as the WTA page describes. The trail was tough to navigate; even though it was December, the blackberry bushes were clawing at my family.
The worst part was the absolutely horrible amounts of trash in the park. I picked up some, but quickly just became overwhelmed (and the blackberries were not conducive to cleaning up more today). My wife suggested we go back this spring with garbage bags to clean up. I think this would probably be my only reason to visit this park again.

It used to be a nice place to take the kids when they were small. In summer, we would go down to the gravel bar and throw rocks and explore.
Too bad it's turned into a local hangout/fishing hole. Try Lord Hill, across the river.
