Whiskey Dick West is the bump on the west end of Whiskey Dick Mtn. We accessed the hike via a gate just east of MP 13 on the Vantage Highway outside of Ellensburg. The gate is closed but not locked. Make sure it is securely closed with the chain after you enter and leave. This is part of the L.T. Murray Wildlife area and one can park just inside the gate or drive a bit further to under some power lines where there is some space. A Discover Pass is required.
We hiked the road about 2.5 miles to the top of the ridge next to the highpoint of Whiskey Dick Mtn and tagged that before turning left to the lower west summit. There is a rock wind shelter on top along with a register and a benchmark.
For the return trip we dropped off the summit and took the ridge west over a couple more bumps before making a loop back down toward the car mainly through shrub-steppe crossing a few dry gullies along the way. Lots of elk scat and tracks but we saw no wildlife other than a couple of coveys of chukars and some raptors.
There were near white out conditions over Snoqualmie Pass on the way over and back but we had some sun in this area.
8 miles with about 2000' of gain using roads and going cross country.
