Central Washington > Tri-Cities
Top of the 2nd dune

We fled the incessant Seattle rain and headed over the pass to Central Washington today. The road heading to the trailhead was fine, and the gravel portion of the road was in good condition with no potholes. I made it in my low-clearance car without issues.

The trail was in good shape and generally dry with no real mud to speak of. It was easy to follow until you get to the dunes, and once you get there it's fun to just wander. We made it all the way out to the second dune. The dunes were still a little damp so they were actually pretty easy to climb (if they're dry it is quite a bit more of a workout!)

We got to see a good number of birds including a few eagles and harriers, and spotted about 8 deer down by the water. It was a bit windy at the top of the dune but not too bad on the rest of the trail.

It was a very serene and casual hike and we mostly had it to ourselves. We saw one hiker on the way out as we were heading in, and another group behind us but they turned around at the first dune so we never actually crossed paths.

First sunny and warm (I think it hit the 60s, I was sweating!) hike of the year! Some clouds of gnats were out and I had some wasps check out the inside of my car at the end of my hike, which I didn't appreciate. No wildflowers yet though (sadly).
