My wife and I hiked around Gold Creek Pond and along the road up to the trailhead Saturday morning 10 Feb. We were hoping for some fresh snow from the late week weather, but there was minimal new snow. The trail is heavily compacted and easy to follow. Snowshoes are not necessary at all, though poles or microspikes may be useful for traction / stability.
It was a pretty little jaunt around the area. Gold creek lake is lovely, and there are several photographic places around, but there are a LOT of people pretty much everywhere. The crowd seemed to thin out as we got near the end of the road, but not somewhere you go for solitude. We will be back to explore farther up the trail and hopefully get away from the crowds and packed trail.
