Trip Report

Index Town Wall — Saturday, May. 12, 2018

Central Cascades > Stevens Pass - West

I hiked the Index Town Wall yesterday morning. It was a beautiful day, and arriving around 9:45, the parking lot was already full. I parked near the lot on Reiter Rd not too far from the lot.

The hike itself is short and steep - nothing overly challenging but you'll get a nice workout on the way up. The trail was mostly well marked with blue diamonds, though if you're unable to find those, chances are you might see the pink tape as well. There are two marked forks on the trail, keep heading up - first towards Upper Wall, then to Top of Upper Wall. I had read a previous trip report which mentioned veering right at two forks in the trail - i found that these two forks occurred after the two signed forks. The last navigational quirk at the top is to follow the old logging road uphill (to the right as you come upon it). From there its only a couple minutes to the viewpoint.

If you don't want the hike to end, continue beyond the viewpoint, where a climbers trail follows the cliff face another few hundred feet (at least, thats how far I went). Views are comparable, but you might be able to find more solitude further out.

Overall, I think I passed 11 hikers and many more climbers.
