Perfect conditions for a sunset hike yesterday. Left work and got to the TH at 6PM. Mountain Loop Highway has one section that looks washed out and gravel covered, but totally fine, just go the speed limit here and you'll be fine. Road in was snow free and in good shape, a few "potholes" but not deep, just shallow areas where the road is in bad shape and bumpy. Trail is snow free until 2/3 of the way up the hike when you have to cross over a waterfall/stream using a slightly sketchy side-hill snow bridge. Definitely be careful here, especially as the snow continues to melt and get thinner. One other area just past this had another side-hill snow section, but aside from those it was smooth sailing. There are two or three chutes that you climb up in the snow that get pretty steep and definitely are glissade recommended on the descent, but no gear required, just strong legs and patience (you will slide down some on the way up, just take your time and be careful). Fantastic views all the way up once out of the tree line, snow in good condition. Definite cornice danger at the top, stay back from the edge - it's a long sheer drop off the North side. Summited at 8:15, hung out until sundown at 8:52 and then glissaded down/ran back to the parking lot by 9:35.
