I wasn’t really feeling it today and wanted something short so to the mailbox it was. I arrived to an almost full upper parking lot just before 7:30am. I was a bit surprised given the weather (i.e., no view). This was another training hike for me so I wore climbing boots and a 41.2 lb pack. The trail is in great shape for the old trail. The snow is gone and there was no mud to be found. The trees still try to trip you with their roots on the way down but that’s to be expected. There are a lot of mushrooms popping out of the ground so that was cool. I made it up to the summit in 2 hours and 6 minutes without stopping and not eating or drinking at all. I drank a little of the iced latte I brought up at the summit and dumped out 18 lbs of water and headed right back down, only spending 6 minutes at the summit. There were a LOT of people coming up as I was heading down and two people had music playing out of their backpacks giving me flashbacks of Rattlesnake Ledge. My trip from the summit to car took me 1 hour and 34 minutes, including one stop to photograph a mushroom and numerous stops to give the right of way to uphill traffic.
