Yesterday was a specular day to head up Iron Peak for the first time. Snow starts at 5200' and is thin in spots - I postholed a dozen or so times. Finding your way up to the saddle might be a challenge, as there are footprints all over in the snow - stay to the left of the scree field, lest you make my mistake.
From the saddle, views are nice, but the 350' and .6mi spur to the summit is completely worth the added work. Much of the trip from there can be handled on dry rock, and where you do need to travel on snow, just steer clear of the cornices.
