Emmons Moraine — Sunday, May. 27, 2018

Mount Rainier Area > NE - Sunrise/White River

We did the Emmons Moraine Trail via Glacier Basin trail. The trail was overall in excellent condition, and very walkable even for our 3 1/2 year old for much of the trail. There were a few spots of snow but it had melted enough that you could easily walk around it. Trees had all been cleared from the pathway, so there were no obstacles to clear, and the bridge over the rive was in great condition.

Word of caution for those hiking with young children. Crossing the bridge and going up the switch backs after it, carrying the kiddos would be advisable as the terrain is too tricky for a young child to navigate solo. Once you get to the Emmons view point, there are branches off the trail which lead to the best vistas, but these are at pretty steep drop-offs so again, caution with young children.

Overall an easy hike with stunning views of glacial lake, waterfalls, glaciers, river, and forests.
