Weldon Wagon Road — Friday, Jun. 1, 2018

Southwest Washington > Columbia River Gorge - WA
Weldon Wagon Road by bcbuck
Started up around 5 pm. No one parked at the small parking area. Most of the native flower blooming had passed except tall stem purples and white short stem. The native lilacs in the tree areas were still in bloom and smelled awesome throughout the hike. The only wildlife were a few frantic squirrels and maybe a 100 little two to three inch lizards scurrying up and down the trail and in the under brush where their sounds of escape were constantly heard. Being a former farmer and rancher, the old ranch at the end of the trail was a welcome site and picnic table a welcome refueling spot before the journey back down. The bugs were extremely mild and the hike while a little warm was super pleasant. The first 1/3 of the trail is easy on the feet but remaining part has rock protruding and narrows. Nothing less than trail running shoes are advised. No discovery or forest pass needed I found this hike where I passed no one up or down extremely satisfying for a day hike. I was down to my truck around 7:15. Very cool and would do again if in the area.
