There is a summit loop trail at 3050 feet. I didn’t read the trail sign at the trailhead so I didn’t know this. To the left of the marker it’s the shorter rout. I’m glad my guess lead me shorter rather than the longer way.
This hike looked totally doable and perfect for my day....for about the first mile. Then the it just got steeper with every step.
I’m not a competitive hiker or super experienced, but I thought I was pretty fit! Mother Nature called me a sucker and laughed. That was tough. Pretty steep after mile 1. I thought it was absolutely beautiful though. Lots of woods, not much as far as scenery breaks till closer to the top...but I like trees. It was so quiet and I only saw about 10-15 people the whole trip. Loved it and hated it (but now that I’m down it feels a lot more like love).
Flies are starting to come out. Lots of trees across the trail on the upper mile.
Have fun!
