The trail is free of snow until shortly after the Head Wall. Note about the Head Wall - there is a rope at the Head Wall put up by some hiker. Use it at your own risk. The snow is still fairly deep in the basin after the Head Wall and on the slope. They are several places where if you're not careful you will break through to the hollow under the snow. The snow condition were pretty good now, firm but not icy. Boots handled it just fine. However, with the warmer weather we are getting over the next couple weeks the snow is going to be a mess to walk on. Whitehorse Creek is flowing more than I've ever seen. Crossing Whitehorse Creek is a challenge and will only get worse over the next couple weeks as the snow melts and the flow increases. The lake is starting to melt but was still 80% frozen. My advice, if you want a enjoyable, stress free hike and see the lake, I'd wait at least until July 1st.
