The forecast was clouds and sun, which I thought would be a good theme for photos. I started up the road to Artist Point at 4:30AM and arrived at Huntoon Point by 6AM. The road is cleared all the way to the parking lot, but the gate at Heather Meadows remains locked because only a small portion of the parking lot is cleared.
The biggest challenge was getting from the parking lot to the ridge because the snow walls are over 20' high. I finally found a place where I could scramble up to the ridge. There was a brisk wind on the ridge. The wind chill made the temperature freezing. I had to move quickly to stay warm.
As I neared the Point, I found the remains of three campfires, some trash, and a leather hatchet cover. Please remember to pack out your trash.
The light and the clouds were magnificent! I really like the unusual sky.
I met Kyle and Kelly from Bellingham. They are the couple going down the road. I did not see any other hikers before I left the parking lot at 8:30AM.
Baker backcountry may not melt out this year...
