Puget Sound and Islands > Bellingham Area
Lost Lake

Its was an overcast day but the trees still feel right even in the rain, so decided it had been a while since I hit up Rock Trail. The Cleator Rd was pretty bumpy and washboard most of the way up compared to just a couple weeks ago. It was a quite parking lot at Cyrus Gates when we started our hike, the rain held off and we headed down the trail. After a short while we were at the holes along the rock face, of course we had to play around and check them out. The tafoni holes are a great photo opportunity or just cool to peek in the large one or crawl up inside of. The trail was in great shape and down beside Lost Lake where it is usually a muddy mess, it was just a little mush. We had the rock face view of the lake to ourselves for the whole time. We chilled and had a snack then we headed down the trail just a few yards for a look at the lakes outlet where it usually forms a small water fall, but today it was hardly a trickle so if you want to see the waterfall, best go after a substantial amount of rain. The hike back was just as quiet. Only encountered a single hiker making his way down the trail and a truck at the parking lot with some bikers off loading mountain bikes for a ride into the popular trails on Chuckanut Mountain. Great 4 mile hike and conversation with a friend.
