Trip Report

Timberwolf Mountain — Sunday, Jul. 1, 2018

South Cascades > White Pass/Cowlitz River Valley
Timberwolf Summit.

This is a drive up to a 6391' former lookout site with some interpretive signs and excellent views of the entire area. Take the Bethel Ridge Road from US 12 and continue to the spur Rd marked 1500191. This road is signed and in good condition but you may want to park a few hundred yards from the summit due to ruts if you don't have good clearance.

A worthy side trip if you are hiking to nearby Burnt Mtn or making the scenic drive to the top of Bethel Ridge.

OhopGrizzly on Timberwolf Mountain

I've been here before, one of the most breathtaking sights I've ever seen. Its all but silent when you don't walk, the most you will hear is the wind if it even blows. On a clear day, you can see Mt. Rainer, Mt. St. Helens, Mt. Baker, and many other peaks. Plenty of mountains, and a trail that leads to the end of the ridge on the peak. People have shot the peak's capstone and stolen signs, which sucks. The are two memorial plaques for people who I assume to have passed away there. There is only one thing though, THIS ROAD ISN'T SUITED FOR ALL VEICHLES AND THE ROAD IS NOT IN GOOD CONDITION. The road is partially washed out, and I recommend that if you go here use only a 4wd vehicle. Note that when the wildfires went through here it swept through where the road starts, be aware of hazards. If you go here, pick a clear, cold day without snow, and at sunrise, it is one of the most beautiful things you will ever see.
