Sheep Lake to Sourdough Gap — Saturday, Jun. 23, 2018

Mount Rainier Area > Chinook Pass - Hwy 410

The hike to sourdough gap was the most interesting trail I have done. The trailhead was covered in snow and 50 degrees, but quickly changed to arid conditions with warm breezes and flowers, then to a snow covered meadow with creeks and small waterfalls, crossed out to Sheeps Lake before heading further up the mountain through slate rocks to Sourdough Gap. At the gap was insane. On the side we hiked up it was warm and sunny, but you step through the gap into arctic tundra; valley was covered in snow and fog with icy blasts of wind. Such fun to see so much diversity in one hike.
