We set out in search of clear skies for the Perseids meteor shower and found ourselves on this flat and easy trail through the sagebrush. We parked on the west side, at the Ancient Lakes Road trailhead, and walked maybe 2 miles in to set up camp between the lakes. There are several good sites, nicely spaced out. We were treated to clear, dark skies and also some sweet bumping jams from what must have been a wedding reception up on the flatlands. Really it wasn't that loud, but did make us remember just how close we still were to civilization. What was bad though were the yellow jackets! We had arrived late enough in the day that they weren't too bad, but they were out scavenging in full force the next morning. Don't forget to pack in plenty of water as it is hot and dry and the lakes are all Ag runoff.
