Road is rough but seeing that I brought a low clearance sports coupe up the road, it's fine for any vehicle. Just go slow, be careful and watch for rocks and dips.
Trail itself is lovely, one of the most enjoyable I've been on, except for...
MOSQUITOS!!!! OMG I've never seen such horrible mosquitos. They started near Eunice Lake and lasted all the way up to and including the summit. I understand why they might be by the water, but why at the top??? Horrible. Couldn't stop moving for longer than a second or two before they were all over. Highly recommend bug netting. One guy I saw had plastic gloves he obtained from subway along with his sandwich for lunch (I guess he had some insider knowledge--I mean I read the reports too, but I didn't see anything about mosquitos.)
Luckily I was covered pretty much head to toe with a sunhat with long neck, sunglasses, an icebreaker long-sleeve (they really can't bite through it), and Coalatree pants with drawstrings at the ankles. My friend wasn't so fortunate in his clothing choices and ended up turning around and going back just after Eunice Lake. Bugs did get a lot better in the evening, but they weren't gone completely.
Otherwise... an absolutely stunning and beautiful hike, but one cut short by nasty mosquitos. We were planning on catching sunset at the lookout and hiking back down at night. Maybe I'll try this again in the fall.
