Anderson and Watson Lakes — Saturday, Sep. 29, 2018

North Cascades > Mount Baker Area
View of lakes from the inbound trail

We had a wet, but still enjoyable late season weekend at Watson Lake. Our experience matched the other excellent reports on this trail: (1) it's a long road in full of potholes; (2) the trail is almost always up/down and rarely flat; (3) the lakes are beautiful and worth it!

This is a great hike for new backpackers or families, but they should have good stability as there are some steep sections that get slippery when wet. It's great not only because it's 3 miles for a strikingly beautiful payoff, but also because the 3 miles include a lot of variety and so go by quickly. We went with our 12-year old daughter, and saw 3 other families with kids from about 8-12. Our daughter was easily able to do the hike with a medium-size pack (and we were huffing and puffing to keep up with her!).

Lots of dogs and day hikers.

Lower Watson Lake
Campsite. Looks like we were alone, but there 4ish other groups there.
