Mushrooms galore! I was originally planning a hike in the high country, but the weather was such that there wouldn’t have been much of a view. Rain was forecast for the afternoon as well, so I decided to take a different approach and stick to the river and the forest. The hike description is very accurate and I recommend actually following it (I didn’t read it properly until it was too late and I’d set off in a different direction) - it takes you across all permutations of the trail. Autumn has definitely arrived and the colours of the trees were beautiful and, combined with the bright green moss and the mushrooms, it was a lovely cloudy, slightly misty and wet afternoon. I’d love to come back in spring to see the difference in water level of the Sauk river and Murphy Creek.
