Wanted to catch the Larches before the Enchantments became snowed in in. With the weather looking amazing I decided to thru hike by myself. For those going solo, check out Loop Connector with Jordan. It's a great and easy why to figure out those logistics from TH to TH for $20. I booked the shuttle for 5am, Jordan promptly showed up at 4:50 and we pulled from the Snow Lakes TH at 5:01am. This morning only 2 people rode the shuttle, myself and a trail runner. Jordan dropped us off at Colchuck TH at 5:20am, and I started up the trail at 5:30am; I would finish 10 hours later at 3:30pm with my GPS Garmin clocking the mileage at 20 miles.
What people reading this probably really want to know:
Aasgard pass: There was a light dusting of snow on the top 1/4 of the pass, I took micro spikes but did not use them.
Core just past Aasgard: snow is present until you get down to Inspiration Lake. It is an easy to follow path with cairns and the "boot path". The Larches truly become amazing as you make it down to Inspiration lake, in the core they are covered with snow.
Snow Lakes: Upper snow lake is basically a ravine at this point from the spillway, getting water would be difficult unless you're ok scrambling down, use Lower Snow Lake.

Thank you for your pics and report. I wanted to ask if you saw any mountain goats? Also are the larches at peak or past peak ?

I didn't see one mountain goat, but they're around. In August we saw plenty. The larches are peak right now. The weather is supposed to be amazing the next week.

Thanks for the pics and report. How are the larches? Think the needles will stay till next week? Also, how was the hike overall after Lake Viviane?
