Trip Report

East Fork Foss - Necklace Valley — Friday, Oct. 12, 2018

Central Cascades > Stevens Pass - West

With a clear weather forecast for a few days, we took advantage and did a multi-day backpacking trip with first time backpackers into the necklace valley.  We hiked in Friday afternoon and set camp at the 4.5 mile mark before the river crossing.  The mushrooms are out in full glory. The next day we day hiked up to visit, Jade, Emerald, Al, and Locket lakes.  The trail is in great condition and the slight elevation gain on the first part was perfect for first timers.  The trail gets more challenging after the river crossing but is still in great condition up to the lakes. The trail was less crowded then expected, we only encountered 6 other parties and they were all backpacking into the lakes (tank lakes was the popular destination). The nights were frosty with ice on the tents even at the lower elevation, but bluebird days and starry nights were great.
