Beautiful views from the top, and utter solitude. Can't believe I was the only one to want to hike on our last beautiful weekend day of the year.
I took the Trailhead Direct bus to the Teneriffe lot, then walked the 2 km or so up to the CCC trailhead. The hike up the CCC Road, across the CCC Plateau, was mostly flat and easy, though the surface is gravel, which is not the nicest hiking surface. Nice woods and occasional partial views, though.
Once you start to climb on the Green Mountain trail, peekaboo views appear pretty quickly. The trail is fairly brushy to about the first switchback, but then opens up to more roadlike conditions again. The trail is fairly dry right now, which I gather is not the case earlier in the year. The only running water was a trickling falls at the Bustle Creek crossing. Bugs were not too bad, but it's surprising they were out at all considering how cold the night got.
The views from Last Promontory and Absolute Last Promontory are the point of this trip. Despite the peekaboo views earlier I was not prepared for how stunning they were. Between the two viewpoints the whole Middle Fork valley is laid out beneath you, and all the peaks on both sides. If you're a fan of hikes with big payoffs at the end, this is a trail for you.
I guess it's possible to continue on up the scree to the top, but it didn't look fun. There's a side trail that I guess takes you to an easier talus slope, but I didn't go all the way up that trail because it looked like it was just going to be up the Bustle Creek valley and would not have any views for a while.
From the CCC trailhead, across the Plateau, up Green Mountain and back down and to the trailhead, I saw 0 people. Not one. Hard to find solitude in our mountains any more, and all the more surprising since you can take the bus to this trail.

Kudos to you for taking public transportation to get to this hike. That takes effort and determination. Nice pics on top of that!
