Trip Report

Taylor River - Otter Falls — Thursday, Dec. 27, 2018

Snoqualmie Region > North Bend Area
Full view

After several false starts in recent weeks (our fault on timing), finally determined to make it to Otter Falls today. There is recent snowfall, so parking lot and first mile or so had 1-2" or so of light snow/slush. After the first mile, trail was consistently 4-6" of snow. (If you got new snowshoes for Christmas, you could try them out, but we did fine without any traction). After this next system comes through (Fri/Sat), conditions may change considerably.

Cairn marker wasn't terribly obvious, and the final trail to the falls wasn't clear either ~ once you leave the main trail, head at about 1 o'clock until you reach the top of the ridge. (Of course now we know for next time!) Not much water this time of year, but the snow gives it a wonderful grey-and-white appeal. Only a handful of people, so a very quiet day...

TIP: Use the outhouse at Mailbox Peak (or Granite Creek TH - thanks Scheris Schuring!)- USFS has closed all other outhouses for the winter, so no facilities past Mailbox/Granite Creek.

Bathrooms at Granite Creek TH are also an option! Got any pics from Otter today? I'd love to see them now since it's been a month since ib was there.
