Seward Park — Saturday, Dec. 29, 2018

Puget Sound and Islands > Seattle-Tacoma Area

Didn’t feel like a long drive in the wind and rain so I picked an urban hike for a change.

The perimeter trail is a flat 2.4 mile paved loop. You can add some beautiful miles and a little elevation by exploring the trails in the center of the park.

There are treasures to be found if you like mushrooms, ferns and woodpecker holes. Good for tree lovers and hikers of all ages.

Restrooms, honey buckets, picnic shelters and a pretty cool playground.

I see a heart pattern in the bark. :-)

I was happy to see big old trees in the city. Love that thick bark!

kascadia on Seward Park

If I remember correctly, there is a stand of old growth in Seward Park. Any sign of the Seward Park parrots (feral conures)? We use to live just above the park, they would come to the neighborhood feeders quite often. They nested in the park. There is also a terrific pottery studio in the park, their Christmas sale ended just a few days ago.

I used to see wild parrots when I lived in New Orleans. I think they migrated up from Mexico. How fun to see them in Seattle! It was pouring down rain and super windy when I was there so I’m afraid I didn’t see many birds. Just a few Towhee. The trees are fantastic though. A surprising number of big ones survived through the years of urbanization.
