Marckworth ForestA rare hike in the snow.https://www.wta.org/go-hiking/trip-reports/trip_report.2019-03-02.6694951461https://www.wta.org/site_images/trip-reports/2019/tripreport.image.2019-03-02.8868760766/@@download/image/marckworth 2019-03-02 006.JPG
Nice to see you about and about even if it was a crunchy snow covered road. Lots of good intel in your report so thanks for that. The Elwell Cliffs are on my to do list, just curious if the road is as steep as it appears on the topo?
I hope we're talking about the same cliffs - these are the N/NW facing cliffs above the Elwell and Youngs Creek confluence. Park at the second bridge over Youngs Ck.(DNR1029) and follow the road. Ignore the first right (dead-end spur) and stick to the right after that. Not steep at all.
(just past the first large "Y" on the left, look for a bootpath shortcut on your right. It will save you a lot of road walk.)
I've always looked at the approach from Stossel Creek Road which shows a road going all the way to the top. I see what's listed as 4wD road and the trail on the Young's Creek side: https://www.topozone.com/washington/snohomish-wa/lake/tomtit-lake/ One and the same?
Yeah, that's it; but it looks a little dated. That 4WD road actually connects with the road to the top. Look on the Google image for a better view. Best to come in from the north - from Youngs Creek, it's only about a mile.
