Hiked on 3/2. Park outside the gate. Icy and slippery near the entrance, then snowy up to the trail. The trail is bare for 1/2 a mile then it gets icy because of snow compaction and overnight freezing temperatures. As you gain elevation, the trail becomes snowy. You don't need gaiters but micro spikes and poles are extremely helpful during descent, which gets slippery. One of the best hikes in the country!
