Mount Si - Old Trail — Saturday, Apr. 13, 2019

Snoqualmie Region > North Bend Area

Got to the trailhead for Little Si around 745 am and the main lot was full with overflow nearly full. King County Mountain Search and Rescue was out for training so that was part of the reason. They had about 30 awesome folks out for drills, etc. The trail was in great condition heading up despite constant rain. About 1000 vertical ft from summit the rain turned to snow with some snow accumulation occurring near where the old trail intersects the new trail for the last 0.3 miles to the summit. I only stayed at the summit long enough to dump water weight and rearrange a few things then headed down as I was wet (despite rain gear) and worried about getting too cold. The trail was considerably more soggy on the way down but was still able to jog most of it. Only saw a few parties on the old trail and the summit was not very busy, probably due to the weather. Ran into the search and rescue folks near the base of the douglas fir trail intersection, had a good convo and they gave my pup some love - so thankful for people like this who give their time for such an important thing! All in all a good day. 2 hours up with 42 lbs pack weight, less than an hour down with about 25-30 lbs pack weight.
