Trip Report

Packwood Lake, Lost Lake — Saturday, May. 11, 2019

South Cascades > Goat Rocks

We did an overnight backpacking, camping at Packwood lake (this trail is snow free and in good condition). The lake is beautiful and there are many great campsites along the shore. After setting up camp we headed up the trail to Mosquito Lake and Lost Lake, seeing how far we can go before hitting snow. Solid snow starts no far from Mosquito lake. Lots of post-holing. We turned around and did not continue beyond Mosquito lake. There are no views on the way to Mosquito lake, and the lake is just a small unimpressive pond partially frozen. Not worth going up there, other than the exercise. If I had to do it again, I would have walked around the lake and beyond to explore the Upper Lake Creek trail instead (#81)

Lost Lake and beyond are worth checking out but I agree that Mosquito Lake is not an interesting destination
