Cherry Creek Falls by saramarge

Wonderful trash clean up hike today on the Cherry Creek Falls Trail! Packed out 5 lbs of trash with 6 total volunteers in our group - lots of dog poop (bagged and unbagged), trash by where people park their cars, and beer cans over by the yellow abandoned car. There’s also a lot of broken glass over there as people smash what remains of the windshield and headlights/brake lights... we picked up what we could. Please bring a bag with you (the 11th essential) and help pick up what you can)!

Trail is in great shape until you get to the fork before the falls... it’s starting to get overgrown in some areas so be prepared and wear long pants if that bothers you. Bugs weren’t too bad in the morning but they were picking up toward the afternoon as it got sunnier and muggier. The falls were beautiful and the water is still very cold! My feet went numb in about 10 seconds but it was very refreshing!

Almost every dog I saw today (and there were lots) was off-leash... not sure what the rules are on this particular trail (I always just assume on leash), so be prepared if you bring a dog.

ALSO! The water levels are still high - all the “islands” near the falls are submerged and there were at least two creek crossings where your feet will get wet if you aren’t careful - wear boots!
