I took an afternoon walk in Cowiche Canyon from the west end today. I only got as far as bridge #4 because I was waylaid by profuse stands of Showy Penstemon between bridges 2 & 3. I don't think I've ever seen it this profuse in the canyon before. The canyon sides ares pretty brown, but along the creek it is lush and green and there are lots of wildflowers blooming. In addition to the penstemon, there is lots of buckwheat (especially Eriogonum stricta), purple sage, lupine, western white clematis, water hemlock, mock orange, wild rose, and a few others. There were quite a few others our enjoying the warm afternoon.
