Had a fantastic hike on Saturday June 22nd with a group of 11 hikers thru Mazamas. We started off about 9:30 to clouds and mist, so had a cool and easy climb up. Fog started to burn off just as we reached the weather station around 11:30. We didn't encounter too many folks on the way up...a few mountain bikers passed us on their way up. Super polite on both sides about giving right away.
We lunched just below the Loowit Junction trailhead while we waited for the clouds to burn off the top of Mt. St. Helens. Alas it never fully did, so started our descent back down around 12:45. The walk down was still cool, but much sunnier...blue skies and a bit of sun peaking thru the tree canopy. Took us two hours back down with a lot more trial traffic. Passed hikers, dogs and mountain bikers...again everyone was super friendly.
Looking forward to getting back out on this trail!
