We aimed for the Big Sky Loop but got mixed up in boot paths and only did half of it. Still though, it was a great little hike. Very private. No one else on the trails despite seeing some folks camping down in the rec area. Good number of campsites and not a heavy use area so many were free. It seems like a great spot to camp. I'd like to do it myself on another trip.
We absolutely needed a compass to navigate in addition to the paper map. There was no cell service and it was unclear which way to go from the map alone at some of the forks due to poor marking.
Keep your eyes peeled for reflective tape with numbers on some of the trees. Overall, it was nice stroll through the woods. It was fun to get lost and find our way out. It's a great place to test out your way-finding skills since it's close to the highway and the hike isn't too strenuous.
The day use area is very nice with great shade, picnic tables, and vault toilet. Great stop on the road.
