Like most say the road in is an adventure in its self! At one point the road forked you could continue straight & upward or turn left. This is the point you need a high clearance vehicle(last picture). There were a couple Subaru’s parked here. We managed it ok in our Santa Fe but scraped bottom a couple times. The trailhead is easy to miss, it’s at the point of a turn in the road with a sign that is almost covered by the bushes. Since this is a low traffic trail it is very overgrown. The beginning starts with a low tunnel of trees like your looking for Totoro. Watch out for a deep whole on the left it will ruin your day! Once you pass the moss covered rock slide you move into the forest proper. Trail visibility is 5ft-3ft at best most of the time, the brush is thick!! Tons and I mean tons of large blowdowns! We managed to navigate them ok even with the 20lbs of gear in our packs. Most required you to climb over, a few had to be crawled under. I came out with bruises from my adventures climbing over a couple of them. The Meadow was beautiful sadly I didn’t get any pictures. There are a few streams to jump and it’s pretty muddy in spots. The lake is on the other side of the meadow requiring one last jump. Straight ahead is the first campsite. Following the trail to the left brings you to the cabin. Back at the first campsite if you go to the right towards Eagle Creek, cross it you’ll find another campsite, this is the one we used. It was perfect for hanging out hammocks and even had a log bench! Also bonus this site is on the same side of the creek as the backcountry toilet! Yes there is a backcountry toilet!! Bug spray!! Don’t forget your bug spray!! I totally forgot mine...it wasn’t pretty.
Later in the summer there will be plenty of berries to pick at the lake!
