Hiked up to the lookout. Next to no snow left on the trail. Saw an interesting bear. Hump, low back and ears like a grizzly but snout like a black bear.

Thanks for the photo - just beautiful! I think this is a cinnamon-colored black bear (https://blog.nature.org/science/2017/02/07/when-black-bear-actually-blue-bear-color-phases-grizzly-identification/). That is, I hope it's a cinnamon-colored black bear, since I'm hiking this loop in a week and a half!

Thanks for the info. My husband and I are doing this one this weekend and I was wondering how much snow is left and if we will need traction devises. Your report is helpful! and we will need to be extra careful with our food too! This is definitely a black bear, they can be cinnamon colored as well. google grizzly vs black bear faces and you can see a big difference in grizzly bear nose and ears.
