Summer Blossom, North Navarre Peak — Saturday, Jul. 20, 2019

North Cascades > Methow/Sawtooth
Trail

Got an almost early start on the Summer Blossom Trail, after spending the night at the nearby South Navarre campground. The 2h drive from Chelan wasn't too bad, as much of the long dirt road has been repaired, but it's still far from perfect. The final 2.5mi from the campground to the trailhead was still unimproved, and could be a challenge without high clearance.

Followed the trail up to the pass between the two Navarre Peaks, and did a quick side-trip up to the north summit. Descending from the pass, a few spots required careful footing. In the meadows below (and in the burned areas), the trail was a bit faint in places. Set up camp in the saddle S of Pt 8002, before continuing along the trail to Deadman's Pass. The only obstacle on this section of the trail was a washout (requiring carefully traversing steep, sandy soil) just before reaching the pass.

After passing a few small streams right at the start of the trail, there was no water until reaching the basin SW of Pt 8002 (and again at the washout just short of Deadman's Pass).

Didn't encounter anyone. Plenty of wildlife and wildflowers. Noticed a few mosquitoes, but they didn't seem very motivated.
