Finally got a chance to check out the Oxbow Lake Loop Trail this weekend with the family. As prior reports have stated, this is a very nice trail. One can tell from the outset that it has seen recent work due to the nice layer of gravel on the entire trail making for a nice walking surface.
We visited on a hot (for Western Washington) August day. We only saw one other person on the trail. Made a quick stop at the restroom which is noteworthy because there are two parking lots for this trail. The first one you come to on the road dumps you right onto the trail. The second parking area is where the bathroom is located and is a 1/4 mile from the trail although to be honest, there were some nice views on that trail as well so it was worth the extra walk.
There are great views everywhere on this trail. From the outset, on the river access, on the peak-a-boo views of the lake itself.
The only complaint we had were the amount of mosquitoes. They have been vicious this summer and any sort of repellent hardly keeps them away. If you stay moving it isn't bad but if you stop, prepare to swat them away. We wanted to stop and make some sketches of the views, but would have spent more time squashing mosquitoes.
The saving grace was the amount of baby frogs we saw on the hike. They were everywhere and the kids loved seeing them!
