Lookout Tree TH

Zipped by the sign on my way home from another hike, and had to back up to check this one out. Got home and looked it up; and sure enough, CP has a report. So I guess this is more of a reminder...

This is a great little leg-stretcher. A quarter mile down a steep hill to a couple giant cedars. Watch for the sign!

Ups n Downs on Lookout Tree

I thought I read one time there was an actual lookout up this tree back in the day but maybe I'm just imaging that.

Muledeer on Lookout Tree

Did you notice the back of that sign? The FS was apparently into recycling signs when they put that one up!! I did that hike a few years back. I think I remember reading somewhere that they climbed the tree for the lookout and camped at the base. Darrington Ranger station might have some good history on it. Once upon a time it connected with the Beaver Lake trail, I think, before a big slide. It's in an old hiking book I had.
