Trip Report
Deception Pass State Park - Headlands / Rosario Head / Lighthouse Point, Deception Pass State Park - Lottie Point Loop — Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2019
Puget Sound and Islands > Bellingham Area
Surprisingly, there were not very many people here tonight. Kayak rentals were still open when I arrived ~5:15 pm. Several kayaks and one SUP were in Bowman Bay. The fishing pier had one observer entranced by two giant Lions Mane Jelly fish. I explored Lighthouse Point thoroughly--interesting, great views of bridge, dangerous, close to the edge, bull kelp, herons, kayakers, and not for children. After going back down, I crossed over to Lottie Loop trail section and saw two seal pups and an adult harbor seal.
Lottie Point Loop, the 'eastside' was very steep in places, dangerous, required crouching under bushes briefly, was quite a bit darker that time of day, included hauling oneself over a large downed tree, and not really a place for children. I enjoyed it despite quite a lot of aerial and road noise. Privy was clean. I did not go to Rosario so perhaps I hiked ~4.3 miles, finishing 2.75 hours later at 8pm. I'd like to come back in the spring.
