Mount Rainier Area > Chinook Pass - Hwy 410

I would like to note first and foremost, my GPS tried again and again for me to turn on FS7150. This is NOT CORRECT, keep going just a little bit further and you'll barely see the sign but folks are generally parked there, so you should be able to find it. It truly is 1/4 mile from FS73.

Now on to the trail. Woof...it starts right away and keeps going, the entire time. I took "micro-breaks" and hauled my chubby butt up to the 2nd lookout. I intended to go to the 3rd lookout but was OVER IT by the time I made it to the second one. I don't know how anyone makes it all the way around the loop but you deserve some sort of award.

There was only one downed tree across the trail, totally passable. I only saw a group of mountain bikers and a group of 2 ladies the ENTIRE TIME. I loved that about this hike! So if you're looking for a solitude burner, this is your hike! Stunning views and the stereotypical PNW trees, moss, rocks. I did not need my poles up but I used them on the way down since it is so steep and it's a pretty rocky trail.

Did you find this trip report helpful?
